Comentario del General David H. Petreaus (Commander, U.S. Central Command) en una conferencia de Jefes del ejército USA sobre Al-Qaeda: "Al-Qaida operates in limited numbers in southern and eastern Afghanistan, but larger numbers of the terror group are in safe havens they have established in western Pakistan, Petraeus said. The group is a danger well beyond the region, he added, noting that it was from Afghanistan that al-Qaida planed the 9/11 attacks and attacks in Madrid, London, Bali and elsewhere".
Es decir, "Al-Qaeda opera en números limitados en el sur y este de Afganistán, pero un mayor número de grupos terroristas están a salvo en los refugios que han establecido en el oeste de Pakistán, dijo Petraeus. El grupo es un peligro real más allá de la región, añadió, haciendo notar que fue desde Afganistán que Al-Qaeda planeó el 11-S y los ataques en Madrid, Londres, Bali y en otros lugares más".
